“If I allow people to be just okay, or to be mediocre – then what I am saying is I want a company that is just okay. Anyone who knows me will tell you that is not what I am about.” -Bradley J Sugars, Founder, ActionCOACH

Family
Our environment shapes who we are. While we grow and develop, it shapes our identity, values, beliefs, and ultimately our skills. From these elements, our personality and behaviors shape our actions. For most, and for me, our environment starts with our family. We learn our work ethic and start our problem solving by observing our parents.
My mother had a natural inclination towards technical challenges and starting as a “draftsman” she began a career that took her to many of the trade businesses as the office manager. These companies serviced stairs, roofs, floors, and, of course, included handyman services. Without a college education, her straightforward and visual perception of challenges lead to no-nonsense approaches to get things done with simplicity.

Your Trusted Partner
My father was a CPA and the son of a lawyer. Following in his father’s footsteps, he started his own private practice providing tax services to small businesses. His approach was systematic and orderly. Despite the many hours he worked, he always found time to be my baseball coach. Spending time with me and being by my side in my most passionate activities.
I was fortunate to have a normal middle-class upbringing. During those years I was trained if I wanted something for myself, I had to go get it by working hard. When I was 11, I answered an advertisement to deliver newspapers so I could have the best baseball card collection in the area. I ended up with 15,000 cards.
Through high school and college, I worked in a Lumber Yard and in many restaurants.
In hindsight it was a natural conclusion I would end up a Mechanical Engineer. This is a combination of the natural traits and skills I learned from my parents and environment as a child. Later, I obtained degrees in Business & Marketing to support professional career path I was on.
About Me
I am lucky. My wife Shannon and I got married in 1999 she has the patience of a saint and was an incredible athlete who knows about success & failure, effort and training.
When we started dating, I took her to a party at an old college friends house. He hosted an annual had a softball game. The first time we played catch, I knew she was the perfect fit.
We have 2 daughters Emma & Lily. Both are immensely talented and thoughtful people. Completely different individuals despite the commonalities in nature and nurture.
I do all I can to be in their lives, so I coach both girls whenever possible in softball, music, or just having fun. This is why I get up every day.
Learnings
Looking back, I now realize how much those years shaped me. My professional career took me to several fortune 100 companies, but I always had a desire to own a business and work with other business owners.
From my father… I learned to apply logic and repetition to identify and solve problems. Based upon his military experiences I learned we only get one shot at this life we are given, make the most of it. From my grandfather, who grew up during the depression I learned to be cautious with my money. My conclusion is that you have to take chances but always be aware of the money you are spending. I’m sure most business owners can relate to balancing these two mindsets.
From my mother… I learned that those without a college education can be successful by applying hard work and creativity. Further, she always had FUN! As she would say, “Life is too short to be unhappy!”
From her experiences working for small businesses I realized they often fail. This was particularly true in the downturn from ’07-’10. This is when I became most aware of the many challenges that small business owners have and how often they are not fully prepared.
From my wife…My wife has degrees in Marketing & Education. After a stint as a National Sales Manager for an Italian owned company she opted to give back to the community by teaching in small local schools. She has taught me and my children balance and patience. This includes taking time to understand people and how to communicate to them in their language.
From my mentors and coaches… Having played sports my entire life, I have learned about practice, dedication, good days and bad days, and, most importantly, the value of versatility in team sports. Believe it or not, all of these lessons transfer to a small business mindset.
One leader was particularly impactful in his approach. Leading a mid-sized company in a publicly traded atmosphere often requires an effort to “communicate up” and focus on presentation. Instead, he was no-nonsense. As a result, he was accused of being “the most tactical manager in the company.” He was also the most successful. From him, I learned it is results and simplicity that a business needs for success.Having played sports my entire life I have learned about practice, dedication, good days, and bad days. Most important to me is the value of versatility. All of which transfers to a small business.
One mentor was most impactful. As a leader in a mid-sized company in a large publicly traded company he often had to “communicate up”. The presentation was expected to be complicated and overwhelming.
Instead, he took a no-nonsense approach to communication. Once he was accused of being “the most tactical manager in the company”. He was also the most successful. From him I learned it was the results that mattered, and simplicity was key for a success in business.
From my athletic coaching experiences…My passion for sports extends into my coaching of both daughters in high level travel softball. Along the way I have met, worked with, and learned from many talented coaches. From them, I learned about communication styles in practice, training, and competition. One coach in particular has made me truly realize the value of a positive mindset and how to instill that in others. Creating faith in yourself and your team will lead you to great things.
Purpose
In all this, I found my calling. Working with Business Owner to harness their talents, experiences, and passion to avoid the pitfalls for most small businesses and partner with them to realize their wildest dreams.
My passion is to make a difference in the lives of those around me, to coach, train and mentor leaders and their businesses to share in their journey to become the best version of themselves. I want to build great leaders, great organizations, and great communities. We love our adopted community of Grayson, GA in Gwinnett County. Moving to this town outside of Atlanta reminds us of home in the Mid-Atlantic, just a little bit warmer in the winter!
As a coach, I work with clients five key areas. The emphasis on each area depends on your business’s needs and goals. The key areas are Sales; Marketing and Advertising; Team Building and Recruitment; Systems and Business Development; and Customer Service.
My background as an engineer prepared me to focus on looking for root cause in problems and opportunities and create a formula to generate the best solution.
As a business owner myself, I know what it is like to worry about the day-to-day business. I understand what it’s like to put in long hours with the hopes of attaining your dream. I am here to help you change all of that. We will work together to redefine your dreams and vision, and then we will put into place the necessary systems, strategies, and tactics that will allow you to turn your business venture into a thriving, successful one.
Results
Having coached nearly 50 businesses I can confidently say that the owners that apply their time, talents, and coaching lessons begin that pathway to success. All members have experienced revenue growth, greater profits, more free time, and ultimately peace of mind that they are on the right track. There is nothing more rewarding that supporting the growth of a business that directly impacts so many people.
