Increase Profits, Leadership, Culture
Our view of manufacturers is the automotive assembly line. But many other businesses are process dependent. If your business relies on others to do the job as well you do then a checklist is a great step. Examples of other types of business like this are: Restaurants, Construction, Distribution and Retail.
Here are 7 areas in your business you can start with checklists.
Receiving - When materials are received how are they entered into your inventory management system, inspected and stored?
Employee Training - What are the key skills needed for the various jobs. Start with the most frequent tasks and build up to the more complicated.
Assembly Tasks - What are the key steps and tools to assemble the product. You may want to use images here.
Quality Control - Performance requirements and Problem Identification and Resolution. How does an employee measure their work to be sure they did it right every time.
Shipping - Making sure all records are up to date and….very, very important….be sure those invoices get sent!
What seems obvious to you may not be for the new employee. The checklist is the first step to transfer your many years of knowledge and passion into all of your employees' work standards.
