Team, Leadership, Increase Profits
Checklists can be incredibly valuable for trade businesses.
Trade businesses are those that rely on a combination of physical skills and specific knowledge. Some examples include:
Why are checklists valuable for these industries?
Safety: This type of work can be very hazardous. Making sure everyone is trained and operates in the same manner creates consistency and job site awareness that can save lives.
Training: In these roles it can be formal and informal. As a result it is likely to be inconsistent from person to person. Having a checklist can shorten the learning curve as employees turnover….which happens A LOT in these companies.
Communication: The pace of the work leads to slang that not everyone will understand. A visual checklist can eliminate confusion, improve quality of work, and as I said before, improve safety.
Work Conditions: Work conditions vary from day to day. Often outside the weather, time of day and long hours often leads to short cuts. Using a checklist offset the harm from these short cuts.
Customer Happiness: In light of all of these challenges it is important the customer is satisfied. Checklists create standardization which means repeatability is high. Inconsistency can be difficult for customers to accept. Checklists create consistent results.
Where can checklists provide the most value?
Using checklists like these will improve profits, safety, and customer experience. What owner doesn't want that for their business?
